Celebrating words and word players

Today ends our wonderful week of words. We have seen original poems and inspiring poets and will end the week directing you to some wonderful poetry sites.

But first off, a shout out to Maya Angelou, who is celebrating her eightieth birthday today. A fine woman and poet, may she have many more wonderful birthdays!

Poetry Class, is a wonderful resource for teachers wishing to bring more poetry into their classroom. You can check it out here.

At Poem Hunter, you can search for poems by author, text or genre. They also have the top 500 poems and the top 500 poets. Lots to look at here for anyone with a love for words.

This is Shel Silverstein's official site. Basically, one of the maestro's of children's poetry. Enjoy!

And don't forget, before Shel Silverstein, there was the incomparable Ogden Nash, sharing his own brand of word fun.

We hope you enjoyed poetry week here at the Class of 2k8... And remember, sometimes all we have is our words!
